Introduction

Games for Learning is a teacher owned and operated business which specializes in educational games, teacher resource books and workshops. The classroom-tested games available on this website increase student interest and motivation and have been successful in improving student performance on various assessment instruments. A unique feature of these games is that the basic game components can be used for any curriculum topic in any content area across all grade levels. The obvious advantage is that teachers can save time, money and storage space by purchasing a few game sets that can be used to create hundreds of classroom games. The teacher resource books contain step-by-step instructions and reproducibles for creating games using inexpensive, readily available materials. The focus of the workshops is on creating visually appealing materials that students can use independently, with partners or in cooperative groups to learn or review information. The goal of Games for Learning is to provide teachers with resources that make learning curriculum standards enjoyable for children. These materials allow teachers to achieve a balance in the struggle to provide children with authentic learning experiences (literature discussions, projects, research, scientific investigations, etc.) while still preparing them for local and state tests. The use of games helps to create a stimulating classroom atmosphere and provides a more developmentally appropriate method of learning for elementary children. Games also provide an effective way to keep all students actively engaged while the teacher works with small groups to meet the individual needs of students. Using games tends to decrease discipline problems as students are too engaged in learning to misbehave. Most importantly, educational games help to create a life-long love of learning by showing children that learning can be fun and exciting.

Seminars

     Games for Learning seminars are held at public facilities throughout Virginia and can also be scheduled for your school. The seminars provide teachers with an opportunity to view and learn how to create hands-on visually appealing instructional materials that are being used throughout the state. Tips for the most effective use of these classroom-tested materials will be presented. Participants will also have an opportunity to purchase the resources available on this web site. Public Seminar

Item # T-01          $169.00 per participant.
“Teaching the Virginia SOL’s with Games and Centers”
3 hour presentation/demonstration of instructional materials, including SOL games, word wall activities and interactive bulletin boards. This seminar is held at various hotel conference centers. Participants receive a coupon for 10% off any Games for Learning order and a packet of materials for creating a starter set of games. Continental breakfast or snack served.

A: You can schedule a seminar using the contact us form. After we receive your request, we will respond to set up the date, time and any additional information.

Q: Do you have preparation books for any additional subjects?
A: As of right now we only carry Science and Social Studies. Still the "Educational Games for Every Subject" book [code B-05], teaches you how to create games and centers for any additional subjects.
